Matchday 13: Union Berlin – FC Sankt Pauli 0-2

Posted: October 29, 2011 by FCSP Athens South End Scum in Zweite Liga 2011-12

At last, a “Professional” Win

FCSP continued the away good streak, this time by getting a valuable win at Berlin. Having a lot of difference faces in the starting line up, the team reached for te first time near the opponents posts on 8′ (Bartels) but from this point and until half time, the match was more about keeping our defense safe. A few challenges by Union were more or less succesfuly handled by Tschauner.

Second half was a different story. The boys in brown progressively increased the pressure and after 2-3 close calls, Deniz “The Menace” Naki provided the solution on 63′. The following quarter, when Union got in front for the equalizer, was the most interesting part of the game in terms of pace. On minute 70′, our left vertical post did the defender’s job and (phew!) on minute 77, Thorandt (yes, Thorandt!) from close range managed somehow to score the second and kill Union’s hopes for something better in the game…

Next week, the Mother of Battles (until the next one!) – we ‘re hosting promotion rivals SpVgg Greuther Fürth for a VERY critical game. These guys show after a lot of years an exceptional stability so far and they will come to prove it. Losing is not a good option – it will leave us far behind on the promotion chase – in contrary, with a win we ‘re for good again back in business…

PS: A nice crowd including people from both South End Scum and the Athen Klub, packed for the first time the (tiny anyway) München Beer Haus for the game. Pretty cool situation, good idea to repeat it sometime soon 🙂

Match goals:
0:1 Naki 63′
0:2 Thorandt 77′ (Assist, Daube)
