Happy Birthday FC Sankt Pauli…

…but these were no Happy Birthday at all…

Yesterday supposed to be a very special day for the Club… The 102nd anniversary was celebrated with the more or less traditional friendly vs our friends Altona 1893 (by the way we destroyed them by 8-2 – excellent job Coach Schubert – this is the team we were dreaming of all season – really merciless…) but nothing else around seemed like a celebration day… The central post picture is from the Südkurve restrooms – been a few times there and can say for sure that the smell inside is better than the one floating around Millerntor during the last days…

The last 1-2 weeks have been more or less traumatic for the Club. It’s not because of the lost promotion – we don’t think that, except the management, anybody really cares about it – but because of all the incidents that have happened OUTSIDE the field. The team is in a mess, no one know exactly what’s going to happen in view of the forthcoming season – you can find the details about what’s going on with the team in a brief summary, posted by Yorkshire St. Pauli, here. But this is only one side of the story…

For those that probably don’t know, the name of the gentleman above, is Helmut Schulte. FCSP player, FCSP assistant coach (1984-1987), FCSP head coach (1987-1991) and from 2008 until yesterday FCSP Sports Director…

For anybody still unfamiliar this is Stefan Orth, FCSP vice president (2006-2010) and FCSP president since 2010. The Scum hasn’t been able to find anything about the guy’s sports background. The only information available is what will you find in the link, a.k.a. almost nothing…

A Sweet Urban Myth…

The story starts on May 2010 after Bundesliga promotion, when President Corny Littman decided that it was his time to step down from Presidency and leave the steering wheel to somebody that could continue his (remarkably good in many sections according to the Scum) work. The chosen one was Stefan Orth. He first served as a temporary president during summer, and later in Autumn became officialy the next FCSP president following the presidential elections…

Tricky part: candidates for the FCSP presidency have to be approved by the Supervisory Board. Orth’s nomination was the only one approved…

And here’s the Urban myth: Helmut Schulte was supposed to be the temporary president and was a pretty strong candidate for the presidential seat but something went wrong and he ended not  only NOT a temporary president but also being refused  Presidential nomination from the Supervisory Board… Some say that the guy accidentally revealed Corny’s intentions of retiring earlier than it was supposed to and this was something that was NOT forgiven during the following months…

After the “fairytale”, to the facts…

Story resumes on June 2011 when the Club searches for a worthy successor of Stani. The chosen one was Andre Schubert, approved and suggested by Schulte. He took over the team and  after a more or less successful first round, clouds started to gather over the Hamburg sky resulting to a Hurricane towards May… The worst thing for the guy is not his coaching level (we are not the right people to criticize ANY football trainer) but the fact that he completely lost control of the team. There was an incredible post by Bild on May 3rd that was NEVER challenged by the Club Administration while at the same time a council of the team, including Boll and Morena protested to the Administration about Schubert’s attitude. Weekend came and passed with a 5-0 victory over SC Paderborn and Monday May 7th arrived. Schulte was at Kaiserslautern in search of a possible successor while the meeting between the Club Management and Schubert, with only agenda the discontinuation of his contract, started in Hamburg…and then came the Bomb: FCSP announced that everything is OK with Schubert WITHOUT the approval or even knowledge of the Sports’ Director!!! Normal for Greek but NOT for German football…

The rest of the story is known. Helmut Schulte was sacked yesterday on the 102nd FCSP anniversary…

Conclusion…

The Scum has already expressed its opinion about Schubert but this guy is not the main issue here at least not anymore… seems that there’s a lot more going on in the background from people that shouldn’t be there in the first place… We’re not the ones to tell who’s Sankt Pauli and who’s not – (nobody has the right to do this), but these gentlemen (some of them well paid, if we’re not mistaken), sooner or later have to understand something: FC SANKT PAULI IS NOT FUCKIN’ REAL MADRID OR FUCKIN’ CHELSEA – IT’S FC SANKT PAULI – PERIOD! This means in plain English, that there’s no room here for anybody’s personal ambitions, conflicts, egos or whatever the fuck anybody likes to call it. THIS IS FC SANKT PAULI – the team supposed to ruled BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE. Just keep on the same tune and along the way you find all of us waiting at the corner… Who are we? Ultras, Oldtras, people traveling all around for FCSP, people who spare food for a ticket, people who don’t spare food but actively supporting financially the club, people with votes, people without votes but with very strong voice and will, etc, etc, etc…

Never forget that…

So, while the Administration spends the Summer analyzing carefully the possible consequences of the Scum serious threats ( 🙂 🙂 :-)), it’s time for all the others to chill out a while (yes, we told it last week but…), restore some energy so we can get back in shape because WE WILL be back 🙂 There’s no other way, anyway…it’s written on the AFM wall below…

Enjoy your Summer fellow Sankt Pauli people!
