Second stop for this seasons DFB Pokal cup is VfB Stuttgart, a pretty beautiful place with an awful team.

Stuttgart At Night

Our opponent’s latest news is a massive defeat from Bayern Munchen with 6-1 score. Now, posing at the last place of the Bundesliga standings, they must get up clean the dust from their clothes and give us a chance to get them dirty again. Of course I am not talking about huge scores here, a victory with only one goal suits me just fine.

Let’s have a closer look to our opponent and try to guess what’s coming this round…

VfB Stuttgart is counting approximately 46000 members and is the fifth largest sports club in Germany. The foundation of the club was a result of a merge between Stuttgarter FV and Kronen-Club Cannstatt on April 1912.

VfB Stuttgart, since 1963, only missed two seasons in Bundesliga. The club has won three times the DFB Pokal Cup and five times the national championship. The name of their stadium is pretty much the same with almost every other team in Bundesliga. A car brand and the word “Arena” next to it (Mercedes-Benz Arena)

In recent history, Stuttgart advanced to the first knockout round of Champions League for season 2003-04 after defeating Manchester United, Rangers and Panathinaikos, but they were eliminated by Chelsea (1-0, 0-0).
The 2007-08 Champions League draw paired them with Barcelona, Lyon and Rangers. They only managed to defeat Rangers, so with five defeats and only one victory their dream ended early.

Let’s hope that this time we will make it to the next round, although our opponent is tough to win. Best of luck for our boys and hopefully the end of the match will find us celebrating…
