Unbelievable! A win!

Two and a half months had to pass in order to finally achieve a victory in Millerntor. Even this one took 86′ and the weakest possible opponent in the league in order to do it but this eventually happened in such a beautiful way that let us for a while forget the grim reality of what we really are as a team and gave to the squad a big push, in the fight for what was supposed to be promotion and in real life is about avoiding relegation and disaster. Don’t get confused, this is a happy post 😎

Football

Like a military disciplined team Scum (and Athens Club, militant delegate Ioanna in the house) commandos retired early (3am) on Friday in order to be in the best possible shape in view of the super challenge, both for the squad and our vocal chords. Matchday then, in a really relaxed manner, result of absence of the police chaos with sirens and unpleasant presences breaking our balls. Probably the low risk classification of the game the cause, it was obvious when observing both police presence and club (loose) security measures that actually made the process of getting in the stadium one of the easiest ever. Fucked up Hamburg weather beforehand but with nobody really caring about it. A personal state of bliss for my sorry ass, being at the stadium in good condition (more on that towards the end 😎), meeting people from all possible places (including my very own South End Scum crew 😅) that haven’t been able to see for some time, all these on my way home (Athens) for the holidays. Yeps, looks like a pretty pink picture, only “slight detail” to be taken care of Wiesbaden. A small brain reality check, reminding me that this is not a “slight detail” but rather a game of life and death, the known goosebumps while singing “Das Herz Von Sankt Pauli” that haven’t been felt for some time and off we go…

After a shy start in the game, first really good moment for FCSP on 8′ – fast development, really good teamwork between Becker and Veerman and the 17m, directly facing the posts, Becker shot repelled by Lindner! Next station, after some pressure escalation, the goal on 22′ 🙂 Good situation inside the Wiesbaden box, the worst possible (header) pass by Ryo “Birthday Boy” Miyaichi, me turning around and bang my head to the GG wall, turning my head back around to see a ball bypassing Lindner‘s resistance and ending up in the nets!!! Gyökeres was the man that solved the riddle by taking advantage of wrong clearance at the left upper end of the box, avoiding one opponent and eventually executing Lindner! 1-0 relatively early, a slight sense of relief but no complacency in any way, being really aware that with this FCSP this could turn around at any time. Squad did the right thing, insisted trying to score another one and we came really close on 31′ with a killer diagonal bouncing Veerman header from the first post which ended up just a few centimeters from the far post and Lindner couldn’t do shit about it. FCSP continued dominating the game and came close to 2-0 once more on 40′ with a poisonous Miyaichi cross from the right, incoming Gyökeres missing the ball and incoming in 2nd phase Sobota finding the ball but missing the target. HT with FCSP ahead and completely in control but everybody aware that this doesn’t mean really much ^ ^

No matter how much I dislike Luhukay, I can’t (and I don’t) believe that he could give at half time instructions about retreating against Wiesbaden, so the fact that, with the beginning on the 2nd half and as soon as the guests started trying to put some pressure, we switched to pathetic role can be explained only as lack of confidence by a team that has a very low self confidence. First warning by Titsch-Rivero on 53′ who found himself in a good shot position but Himmelmann confidently blocked the ball. Things became really serious on 57′ when (unattended) Aigner received in the right side of the box a 50m long diagonal forward ball and tried to finish at once, this time Himmelmann really earned his paycheck and saved the day with his right leg. And, as we usually say this season, if at a certain point our opponents are trying but are unable to score, we are good enough in finding ways to help them out. 70′ in the game, ball under Knoll control, instead of clearing the ball Knoll decided to play juggler in the box while everybody was unable to believe what the fuck was he doing and eventually provided Schäffler with a take-it-and-score pass for the 1-1 and left me wandering what took us so long, inside a silenced Millerntor… Not much happening until 84′ and the good Zander shot that Lindner successfully secured. At this point one of our crew decided that she urgently needs to visit the ladies room, she returnd shortly before full time with a huge smile, regardless of the fact that she had to celebrate two goals alone in the Ladies’ rooms 😆 FOOTBALL COLOSSUS Henk Veerman turned a single second to hours on 86′ from the moment he avoided his opponent and found himseld face to face with Lindner until ball ended up in the nets. Can’t describe the feeling, just remember my self having gone bananas and hugging like a bear a lady at the age of my mother in GG 🤣 Madness gave space to relief on 91′ when (Super) Gyökeres scored the 3-1 in style from a relatively acute angle in the right side of the box, winning both Lindner and a couple of defenders 😎

Feet still not in touch with the ground the day after but let’s make things clear. This is just about adoring the moment. Will not ruin my (and anybody’s that will have a read at this) mood by reminding things that everybody saw, will just say that Arminia, after having lost a little ground vs Heidenheim is coming hungry next week at Millerntor and Arminia is not Wiesbaden, such a performance against them will be simply not good enough… Of course there are good news as well. We have lost so much ground in the past two and a half months that today’s victory was unable to even change our place in the table, however we are now 4pts clear of the direct relegation zone, this was a fuckin’ 6pter, this would be extremely welcome, even with a 0,5-0. Now? Now let’s try the best we can on Saturday, wait and see what the others will do and eventually see how we go into the winter break, FORZA SANKT PAULI ☠️☠️☠️

Aye, after waking up in excrutiating pain on derby day last March, crawling to the stadium at the last moment only to witness the 0-4 and all that happened around and crawl back to bed afterwards, I deserved this 😁

Funny highlight is undisputedly Thursday evening 😆 Entered Jolly in the middle of something with a microphone involved. After accidentally taking away cable and micophone with me as I was trying to reach the bar and greet and old friend working inside and eventually screwing up the event for 20″ (no, this WASN’T the funny part) managed to adjust to my new environment and soon found out that I’m in the middle of the annual lost & found Jolly auction, with the profits going to Sea Watch. Highlight exhibit of the auction was the…former Mens’ toilet door (featuring even some South End Scum artwork 😇) ! And it gets better ^ ^ This door was part of the auction for the 2nd consecutive year, last year was sold at the price of 120 euros. The thing is that last year’s higher bidder eventually found out that they couldn’t do something with it and honourably returned the item without requesting back the refund that had already gone to a good cause. This time the door was sold for 130 euros and when, at some point around midnight, the new owners left the place carrying their new door, a hilarious spontaneous standing ovation took place 😆🤘🏾 It was something like a Sea Watch weekend actually, Saturday after the game there was also a “drink Glühwein for Sea Watch” initiative at Paulinenplatz 👍🏾

To other miscellaneous stuff:

a) if you’re into REALLY (we don’t play here) spicy cuisine, we have suggestions in Hamburg that will grow hair on your chest regardless of your gender.

b) we don’t mention it as often as we should, not really at the center of the action but, if not familiar, you should definitely spend some time at some point taking a walk by Karoviertel, looks different but so Sankt Pauli at the same time 😊

c) not sure the reason why, hope that this is a temporary result of awareness that we’re in shit and win hasn’t solved a lot but area not as alive and feasty on a victorious matchday as it used to be. Not much was happening outside some 3hrs after the game…

d) Altona Xmas market is cool

Now? One evening left with exquisite company at Jolly tonight and tomorrow off to Athens for my only chance this season to watch FCSP at our club venue 😅 An excellent time here, bringing back memories of the glorious past, cheers and respect to all brothers and sisters that we spent (and will spend tonight) time with (bigger number than brain can currently handle), a safe return to everybody who travelled for this one and wishes for a jolly winter break (last match report will be undertaken by AndyChristos) from Uncle Greg, VORAN FCSP 🤘🏾🏴‍☠️
