Killers on the loose!

Last minute system modifications can be a reason for anxiety and tension especially when things don’t work out the way you expect them to, and the game is about to start any minute. Things were supposed to be set properly but a little bit of this, a little bit of that gave us a sense of uncertainty as far as the game start was concerned. Luckily all problems in transmission got fixed in time and most of the  Scum, joined forces once again in our joint waiting to see SP crushing Freiburg. Popi brought her special aura to the game and of course Ntina who barely made it but still got the point!

If I had to use one word to describe the first half, that would be the translation we use for a dull game in Greece. Soup. Just like soup. Nothing exciting about it. Just two teams trying to gain control of the center, but also being cautious not to take many risks defensively. Sankt Pauli, attacking mostly with Dudziak and Rzatkowski, tried to break into Freiburg’s defense but they seemed to be holding tight. On 24’ Buballa opens a nice high ball to Kalla. The Captain gets the header but sends it away from Freiburg’s posts. Then again on 24’ Thy is left alone with the ball running towards Freiburg’s nets and shoot but Schwolow was placed right and repelled the danger. These were the best attempts we had in the entire first half. Seriously now. The whole action got wasted in the center. Attempts gone to waste from both teams and practically nothing interesting. Which of course worked fine for us as it seemed that a dangerous opponent as Freiburg would have the pace we decided to bring.  On 44’ though was their moment as Grifo managed to fire a nice shot but Himmelmann seemed to be in place and drove the danger away. Nothing more to it. Noone seemed to be willing to open up and so the 0-0 seemed a proper result to end the first half with.

Luckily the second half was ours. The team seemed willing to take the game with Dudziak and Rzatkowkski creating chaos in their lines every time they got the ball to their feet. The others of course could do nothing more than follow. On 51’ Rzatkowski flanks and opens the ball to Kalla. He misses the header though causing no threat to Freiburg. On 52’ a free shot for Freiburg in a really dangerous position. Grifo sends the ball high above our nets. On 59’ Dudziak takes control of the ball and after messing around with Freiburg’s defense shoots a distant shot from 22 meters but a bit above the nets.On 68’ Rzatkowski threatens again sending the ball a bit above the nets, and it is clear that the tie is not enough for SP. On 69’ another moment for SP with Sobiech leading a header and then Thy on the rebound sending the ball to Schwolow’s hands. The game carried on with SP gaining the battle of the center and threatening many times but seemed unable to send the ball in Freiburg’s nets. Lot of steam to blow though and it seemed that it would eventually happen. On the 1’ of extra time, Dudziak sends the ball in front of Thy who shoots. Schwolow repels but Rzatkowski is there. Takes the rebound, shoots and scores. Gooooaaaaalll. No time for Freiburg to do anything.

Damn it it feels so fuckin good. Sankt Pauli with Ewald Lienen behind the wheel is a beast. A reason for any team to be afraid and this is something we enjoy so much. Freiburg is leading the ranks and yet seemed so dazed. SP managed to take Freiburg to its swirl and eventually break them. It would take something more than a ball saved out of the line, or forgetting to whistle a game’s closure (we all remember the previous game right?) to bring us down. SP is for real and soon everyone will be dancing to our beat. Beware motherfuckers. We’re coming for ya. Next victim is Bochum out. The killing will take place on Friday the 30th . No one can stop it.
