Starting on the right foot!

Back from this biiig break and so many changes on the team…first game without Timo on the bench, with assistant coach Hürzeler taking over. Well…It didn’t go bad but still…we’re not convinced that this is the team to dominate the second round (on the contrary!!!). Nevertheless, a win is a win and this is not just a win. This is our first away win since February 26 2022 against Ingolstadt  so yeah…Bottoms up boys!!!

The game starts and Sankt Pauli is not the feistiest. 11’ and Hartel loses the ball before he crosses the midline. The ball ends with Daferner who attempts a distant, 18 meter shot but it is really weak and predictable. Easy job for Vasilj to secure. The pace is kind of sloppy with both teams trying to break each other’s defense but nothing exiting happening until 33’. A corner for Sankt Pauli and the ball is played to the line. Couple of passes and the ball ends with Paqarada. Leart sends a high pass in FCN’s box, where Medic sends a header to their nets. Sankt Pauli opens the score here and it all came out of nowhere. Nürnberg tries to react on 39’ with Gyamerah’s shot from a really dangerous position almost alone before Vasilj. Our keeper though is positioned well and sends the ball away with his knee, saving our nets. On 42’ Irvine sneaks a pass to Paqarada. Leart takes the shot but unfortunately sends the ball way off target. First half closes with a final shot from FCN. 45’+2 and Tempelmann shoots untroubled from distance, sending the ball though away from our nets.

Second half underway and we kind of looked like we wanted it more. 47’ and a shot from Daschner goes unfortunately straight to Jensen’s hands. FCN’s keeper repels and then the ball is sent away. Not a minute later, Hartel steals from Geis and sends again to Daschner. 49’ and Daschner attempts another shot after his previous attempt. Same positioning, same place but this time he sends the ball way above Jensen’s upper post. The game proceeds slow but it looks like Sankt Pauli had somehow the upper hand. On 67’ Daschner once again. From the left side now. Shoots again and sends the ball terribly above Jensen’s upper post. Horrible aim from Daschner today. On 75’ Vasilj saves us from trouble once again when after an attempt on pass from Nürnberg, the ball deflects on our defensives and changes its course heading to our nets. Vasilj jumps and sends the ball to a corner.  FCN does not do anything with that corner and the game stagnates until the end. One last chance for FCN from Tempelmann on 90’+8 when he sends a shot above Vasilj‘s upper post leaving the score as it was.

Well…A win is definitely a win. And we need the points more than ever. An away win after almost a year is even better news but still…we can’t say we were made the ground shake. On the contrary. We owe a lot to Nürnberg’s terrible aim and to Jensen’s moment of stupidity. He literally throw the ball inside his nets after Medic’s header so yes….you know where I am going with this… It is not like we became Barcelona all of a sudden. Still we stepped on the second round in the right foot so…Go Boys in Brown!!! This Sunday we will not be so comfortable against Hannover. Still.. It is a home game and we have proven that Millerntor is a tough shell to crack. The vibes are there and we’ll all stay beside our boys. Let’s keep the winning streak going shall we? FORZA SANKT PAULI!!!
